Technology based on electrolysis

Electrolysis is an electrochemical process that underpins the manufacture of chlorine and derivative products. It consists of obtaining a brine by combining water with sodium chloride (aka salt) and exposing it to a continuous electric current, from which various chemical compounds can be extracted.

Discovered in the 19th century, the electrolysis process has undergone a remarkable evolution over the years and has now gained a new centrality in the global challenges of decarbonisation: when associated with renewable energy sources, it is the basis for the development of new sustainable products and materials with high added value.

With decades of accumulated know-how, Bondalti, Lifthium's technological partner, is an international benchmark in this process, using state-of-the-art technology to ensure the highest levels of efficiency.

Lifthium will take advantage of this experience and adapt the electrolysis process, introducing lithium chloride to obtain a lithium brine, which will then be refined to generate the final product - lithium hydroxide. In addition, the process will support the use of other available raw materials, namely lithium sulphate resulting from the growing recycling of batteries.

This circularity of processes induces clear environmental benefits, as well as production efficiency, integrating other existing value chains.
